Community Association welcomes back former volunteers as well as new ones!

We’re very happy to say that many volunteers stepped forward at our recent September AGM (annual general meeting) and helped us fill the open positions for the coming 2016-2107 year. It’s going to be a great year with  a nice balance of former and new volunteers making up the community association board.   That being said, we always need and will welcome more volunteers (especially Members At Large), so please join us if you can!

The new board for the coming year consists of the following people:

President (Chair) – Diane Bentley

Past President (Past Chair) – Anna Cole

Secretary – Raelene Purdy

Treasurer – Jessica Mackey

Indoor Coordinators – Margaret Johnson, Shelley Marshall

Newsletter – Jessica Mackey, Eric Wilkinson

Rink Coordinator – Janet Jackson

Website – Anna Cole (+ facebook), Suzanne Nakagawa

Soccer (assisting Caswell Hill soccer program) – Michael Mackey

Members At Large (helping out where needed and/or initiating new activities/events) – Diane Hamilton, Tyler Holowaty (+ rink), Michael Mackey (+ rink), Suzanne Nakagawa, Dave Newton, Yi Zhang, Brad Ziprick (+ rink)

Our Community Consultant with the City of Saskatoon is Heidi Estrada.

Welcome Spring – Community Clean-Up May 2nd!

Saturday, May 2nd from 10am – Noon
Community Clean-Up to Welcome Spring!
(meet at 9:45am to sign in at A.H. Browne Park, 37th St. W. between Avenues D and F)
The 2nd Annual Community Clean-Up will take place in A.H. Browne Park and surround-ing streets.  The Hudson Bay Park/Mayfair/Kelsey-Woodlawn Community Association is organizing another come-on-your-own or come-as-a-group, all-ages, family-friendly clean-up to welcome Spring and enjoy getting some fresh air and exercise.  Garbage bags will be provided, but please bring your own gloves.
A light lunch will be provided to volunteers and water will be available.   The bathrooms will be open just before the clean-up, then closed during the clean-up, and opened again during lunch.  The park has a beautiful playground, so bring your family and hang out for a bit.  Meet at the A.H. Browne Park playground equipment around 9:45 to sign in and get your garbage bags.  We also have “Community Volunteers” shirts that you can borrow to wear during the clean-up; the community event shirts are red, so feel free to wear your own red shirt if you like.
Note: Children’s wagons are great for helping to carry garbage bags and the kids can ride along or help pull the wagon.
You can contact Suzanne at with any questions.
Hope to see you on May 2nd – thank you for helping the community welcome Spring!

Community Garden

There has been some interest in creating a community garden in our neighbourhood. Proposals are due December 1st for gardens for next year – that’s pretty short notice, but if there are people out there very interested in getting things moving, the forms are not too complicated. A location (possibly Henry Kelsey Park) and a layout are the basic requirements.

Want to see this happen? Contact us! Email and I’ll put you in touch with our Member-at-Large Diane that wants to get things moving.

Volunteers Repairing Community Rink

Repairs at Outdoor Community Rink in Henry Kelsey Park on Valens Drive

You’ll notice a lot of new boards at the outdoor rink this winter. Volunteers in the community are getting together on a number of weekends this fall to remove and replace rink boards. If you’d like to help or are interested in helping with shoveling during the winter, please send us a message on this page or the community facebook page.

The rink is open to anyone in the community during the winter. It is maintained by community members, and extra hands are always needed and appreciated!

Thank you so much to everyone who is helping get the rink ready for us all to use!

A Great Day for the Community BBQ and AGM

Thank you to everyone who helped make our community BBQ and Annual General Meeting (AGM) a fun day for all!

It was so nice to see new faces along with familiar ones at the BBQ/AGM today.  We could not have asked for better weather!  Thank you so much to the fantastic youth group for setting up the soccer cage, and to Deanna and Jasmine with the giant Jenga game and other fun stuff from Mayfair Library.  Also thanks to Evan for taking care of the bouncy castle, and Elden for all your help at the BBQ with Bob.

We also want to give a warm welcome to newcomers Tara, Eric, Rachelle, Raelene, and Diane.  They have volunteered to help with the community newsletter, soccer, the secretary position, and in a member-at-large capacity.  Along with new additions to the community association, member Anna Cole has moved up to President, Janet Jackson is Rink Coordinator, and Robert Rudachyk and Dave Newton have moved to a Member at Large position.  We’re happy that our other members are staying with us for another year, and you can read the list of volunteers here:

We still need a volunteer for Website Coordinator (simply keep this community website updated with current community-related news), so please contact us if you can help:

We’re looking forward to a new year, with the first community association meeting being held on Wednesday, September 24th at 7pm, Ecole Henry Kelsey (in the staff room) at 16 Valens Drive.  Open to any residents in the Hudson Bay Park, Mayfair and Kelsey-Woodlawn neighbourhoods.

Please join us at one of our monthly meetings, and contact us any time if you’d like more information on community programs and events, as well as community volunteer opportunities in your neighbourhood.

Thank you to all *Community Clean Up* Volunteers!

A big thank you to everyone who joined the Community Clean Up today in A.H. Browne Park! We had a fantastic turnout and were able to clean up the park and surrounding streets and alleys. The clean up was followed by lunch in the park while the kids had fun blowing bubbles and playing in the playground.

It was great to see familiar faces and meet new ones, and we hope to see you all out again next year!
